A CHOIR comprising of children who have been faced with the difficult task of caring for a parent or sibling will soon be performing a fundraising concert in the capital.
The Merthyr Young Carers’ Choir, which has many members from St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Penarth, is hoping to raise money for the charity Barnardo’s Cymru when they perform at St David's Hall.
The children are all responsible for caring for sick or disabled parents or siblings, which can often be challenging.
And Barnardo’s Cymru has supported them by running fortnightly get-togethers and special outings.
Geraldine Maddison who, along with Ian Denning, runs the carers’ group, said: “They are all a bit nervous about performing at such a prestigious venue but excited too and their families are very proud.
“It has taken real commitment for them to attend rehearsals when they have so many responsibilities at home but they are really enjoying it, it’s been a great opportunity to socialise and grow in confidence. They are a lovely group and very supportive of each other.”
The funding will allow the sessions to continue for several weeks.
The event will be held on Wednesday, February 6 and tickets are priced between £6 and £14.
Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk or calling 02920 878444.
