A DOG has been rescued after taking a precarious adventure on a Penarth cliff edge.

RSPCA Cymru was alerted after members of the public spotted the dog three groynes down the beach, on the edge of a cliff.

The animal welfare charity attended the scene, but the spaniel-type dog had made her own way off the cliff, and was taken to a car park by members of the public, who found the arriving RSPCA officer.

She is not microchipped, but has a collar, strongly suggesting the dog is estranged from their owner. The dog is mostly white, with patches of black and tan.

The spaniel-type has now been transferred to Cardiff Dogs Home, and the owner is urged to contact them on 02920 711242 to reclaim the dog. Anyone claiming to be the owner will be required to provide proof.

Gary Lucas, RSPCA animal collection officer, said: “This was a very precarious adventure for this poor dog – who was spotted stuck on a Penarth cliff edge.

“Fortunately, she managed to safely retreat, and we have transferred her to our friends at Cardiff Dogs Home.

“Anyone who thinks they may own this white spaniel, with black and tan patches, should call them on 02920 711242.

“This incident highlights the importance of microchipping dogs – which is now a legal requirement. This spaniel was wearing a collar, so we strongly suspect an owner is missing her. But had she been chipped, I could have reunited them immediately."
