A FINAL figure for The Waverley Care Centre Bottle Stall and Christmas Raffle has been calculated.

Totalling up to a grand sum of £1,800, much of the money has now been spent purchasing specially adapted ‘dementia dolls’ for residents with advanced symptoms at the Waverly care home on Plymouth Road, Penarth.

Peni Malson, manager at The Waverley Care Centre, was extremely grateful for the contributions made by the Tesco superstore in Penarth Marina, along with their staff and all of those customers who contributed money, time or items.

A decorated trolley was placed in the store for anyone to place their bottle donations, with donated items including alcohol, sauces, olives, mixers and anything else that came in a bottle.

Jill Payne, Tesco store manager, supplemented the trolley donations with a selection of branded spirits, including whisky, brandy, gin, vodka and rum, all as part of the ‘Tesco in the Community’ initiative.

The Care Centre extended their thanks to Tesco for their part in making the event such a success, and congratulations also went to The Waverly Care Centre for running such a profitable and well-organised raffle.

Tesco will now follow the fundraiser up with a similar initiative for the Waverley Chocolate Easter Egg Raffle.
