A NEW commander has been appointed for the police in the Vale.

Chief Superintendent Alun Morgan has been appointed as the new Divisional Commander for Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan.

It is a proud moment for Mr Morgan as he approaches 30 years of service with South Wales Police.

During his career, he has worked in all four divisional areas of the force as well as with specialist units at Force Headquarters in Bridgend.

He has considerable experience of policing at both operational and support levels since starting as a Police Constable in Cockett, Swansea, through to more recent duties as Superintendent (Operations) in Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Chief Supt Morgan is a trained hostage and crisis negotiator and has been so for almost half his service.

Mr Morgan said: “I am truly humbled to become the Divisional Commander for Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan.

“It is a real honour to lead the police officers and staff members who do remarkable things day in, day out to keep our communities safe.

“I have a fantastic team around me with key support from Superintendent Claire Evans and I want to build upon the excellent work of my predecessor Chief Supt Stuart Parfitt, to continue to address the concerns of residents in our communities and take positive action to tackle any issues successfully.

“Keeping the area safe remains our priority – which means making it as hostile a place as possible for those with a view to the contrary.

We are here to keep our neighbourhoods safe and we will aim to do that by working in partnership with all those who share that vision.”
