AN independent bookshop in Penarth is planning more chances for people to meet authors.

Griffin Books, of Windsor Road, Penarth, will be hosting two events in late March and early April where people will be able to meet published writers.

On Thursday March 28, three historical crime writers - Mick Finlay, Alis Hawkins and Katherine Stansfield - will be discussing their novels at Penarth Pier Pavilion, starting at 7.30pm. The latest thrillers from the three authors are all set in the 19th century, but in very different parts of the country.

Bookshop owner Mel Griffin said: “It will be fascinating to hear these three talented authors comparing notes and sharing their secrets. All three books have a strong sense of place, so it’s fitting to be hosting the authors in the iconic Penarth Pier Pavilion, and we’re delighted to be partnering with pavilion management for this event.”

A week later, on Thursday, April 4, the bookshop team will be hosting an afternoon tea at All Saints Church, followed by a discussion with author Anstey Harris.

Anstey’s uplifting novel, The Truths and Triumphs of Grace Atherton, has been very favourably compared to the 2018 bestseller Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and is described by Heat as “a beautifully tender portrait of the complexity of love, the depths of loneliness and the healing power of friendship”.

Tea will be served from 2.30pm and the talk begins at 3pm.

Mel Griffin said: “The book is partly set in a violin shop and has a strong musical theme running throughout. So, we’ve arranged for local musicians to provide live background music on violin and piano while we enjoy our cream tea.”

Tickets for both events are now available by calling 02920 706455 or at ticketsource.co.uk/griffinbooks
