AN animal welfare charity is appealing for help after rabbits were found dumped at a bus lay-by.

RSPCA Cymru received calls from concerned members of the public after the rabbits were abandoned on Leckwith Road just before Lon Cwrt Ynyston, heading towards Llandough.

Around five or six rabbits were reportedly dumped on March 31.

RSPCA inspector Gemma Black said: “Unfortunately there was very thick bramble bushes which the rabbits took cover under.

“However, with the help of a few members of the public - who had attended after hearing about the rabbits being dumped on social media - three of the rabbits were recovered. Sadly the remaining rabbits were not found.

“All we know is that a female was seen in the area and that this incident occurred around 5pm.

We’d also urge members of the public to contact us if they find any other rabbits in the area.

The area is next to a very busy road and one of the rabbits was right on the pavement when I attended.

“We would like to remind people about the potential offences involved about releasing domesticated pet rabbits to the wild.

There are not only the dangers of the road, but also wild predators such as foxes and also the inability to survive.

It was very upsetting leaving without collecting all the rabbits and worrying about their now uncertain future.”

The three rabbits are now in RSPCA care and are set to make a full recovery.

Following a vet visit, two out of the three were found to have skin issues which the vet believes is likely from a parasite.
