WALES flanker Aaron Wainwright swept the board at the Dragons' end of season awards night.

The 21-year-old from Bassaleg was rewarded for a superb season with club and country by landing a hat-trick of honours.

Wainwright made 17 appearances for the Dragons – with huge performances in the derby wins against the Ospreys and Scarlets – made his first Test start against Tonga in the autumn and featured in every game of the Six Nations Grand Slam.

Warren Gatland praised the prospect after including him in his World Cup training squad on Tuesday.

"He could be pretty special in the next year or two because he is a great athlete, is quick and is getting better every campaign," said the Wales boss.

Wainwright won the Ed Jackson Players' Player of the Year honour voted for by his teammates and the coaches' award ahead of scrum-half Rhodri Williams and hooker Elliot Dee.

The young player of the season honour was won by Basham with the 19-year-old from Talywain edging out wing Jared Rosser and lock Max Williams.

The try of the season, voted for by supporters, went to Jordan Williams for his stunning sole effort against Leinster at the Royal Dublin Society in September.

His score, when he sidestepped his way over from halfway, beating six defenders, won 44 per cent of the vote ahead of Tyler Morgan's score against Edinburgh, Jack Dixon's against the Scarlets and Rosser's breakaway in the December win against the Ospreys.

The Phil James Community Award went to tighthead prop Leon Brown for the Wales forward's work with the Dragons community team across the region.

The 22-year-old from Maesglas, named in the World Cup training squad earlier this week, was chosen because of his appearances at schools, camps, pre-match community activities and his work with Positive Futures, a sports-based social inclusion programme.

Head of strength and conditioning Ryan Harris was named as clubman of the year with caretaker boss Ceri Jones presenting him the award.

Chairman David Buttress presented caps for 100 appearances to captain Cory Hill, props Brok Harris and Lloyd Fairbrother, centre Dixon and Cardiff Blues-bound wing Hallam Amos after they passed the milestone during the season.

Fly-half Jason Tovey, the Dragons' record points scorer who returned for a third spell, was presented with an award for passing the 1,000 points milestone, a feat that he achieved against the Ospreys in March.
