CWMBRAN'S David Phillips claimed individual gold with a masterly performance at the first stage of the Para-Archery European Cup.
Recurver Phillips blazed past Italy's Roberto Airoldi 7-3, second seed Anton Ziapaev 6-2 and American Kevin Mather 6-4 in the tournament in Italy.
That booked a title showdown with Guillaume Toucoullet and it was an intense match with the Frenchman taking an early lead.
Phillips, world number nine, took the second set and Toucoullet fought back in the third – but from that point the Briton took control to land the title 6-4.
