A CHARITY volunteer has celebrated her 31st birthday by shaving her head to raise more than £1,000 to support three different good causes, several based in Penarth.

Emma Taylor, of Barry, had been a trainee onboard the Penarth-based Challenge Wales, sailing with the charity on its youth development programme.

She then became a Challenge Wales young volunteer before recently setting up her own local business.

She said: “I’ve had long hair for as long as I can remember and I want to give something back to those who benefit from it more.”

Her hair is being donated to the Little Princess Trust, who make real hair wigs for young people who have lost their own due to illness.

Proceeds from her head shave are going to Challenge Wales and Medical Detection Dogs who train dogs to detect the odour of human disease.

Blu Hair Design, in Penarth, donated their services and cut her hair.
