A PENARTH cat found himself on the ropes after getting trapped on the roof of a boxing club on Friday.
RSPCA Cymru was contacted after the cat was spotted stuck in guttering on an apex roof, above the Penarth Amateur Boxing Club in the town.
The cat was stuck some two-stories from the ground and appeared unable to get himself to safety – having first been spotted by members of the public four days earlier before the RSPCA was contacted.
RSPCA animal collection officer (ACO) Fiona Thomas attended, and enlisted the support of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, who were able to utilise ladders to carefully access the black and white cat and bring him to safety.
Fortunately, the cat was microchipped – and was able to be returned to his Penarth home, highlighting the “immense importance” of permanently identifying pets in this way.
ACO Thomas said: “This was certainly a 'rocky' ride for this poor cat - trapped on the roof by a boxing club for a number of days.
“Thankfully, the cat didn’t take a dive, as he was a great height from the ground and clearly needed help.
“We were able to attend very soon after the call came to us, and we’re really grateful to the firefighters who came to help too and were able to access the cat.
“The RSPCA will never throw the towel in when helping animals. Fortunately, this rescue was an undisputed success and the cat was returned to his home.
“He was microchipped, which meant we knew instantly where to take him. This rescue highlights the immense importance of identifying pets in this way – with the microchip acting like the cat’s very own championship belt!"
