SAVVY business owners in Barry’s High Street have banded together to tap into shoppers’ environmental concerns

Ten businesses from High Street, Barry, have produce a 100 per cent cotton, reusable shopping bag.

The bag is the first High Street branded product to be ‘piloted’ by the traders with the aim of raising funds that will be reinvested into the ongoing marketing and regeneration of the street.

Cathy Harrison, of The Gallery Boutique, who came up with the idea said: “All 10 businesses have invested their own money into producing the bags, which will sell for £5 each.

“One hundred per cent of the profits will be reinvested to create a sustainable marketing strategy and improvements to the street, whether it be flowers or signs.

“High Street has an enviable reputation for its annual events and they will continue, but this scheme is aimed at all year around promotion of the High Street.

“We really hope that our customers get behind the initiative as we’ve got loads of ideas to be rolled out and traders keen to sponsor them.”

The bags, costing £5, can be bought from the sponsoring shops - Miss Holmes, Giggles Toys, Bryls Boutique, The Grind House, Budding Designs, Food for Thought Deli, Homemade Wales, Jacquies Fruit & Veg, The Gallery Boutique, and High Street Pharmacy.
