THE town’s first Pride event is set to take place this September.

Following the success of Major Pride in Llantwit Major last year, Barry Pride will take place on Saturday 21st September 2019 with an event on the High Street as well as events across the town.

The event is aimed at being a day of fun for all the family and all are welcome to join and help celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

The day, sponsored by Spectrum Collections, who are originally from Barry and renowned for their colourful make up brushes, will host live make up tutorials from Instagram influencer and make-up artist Ant Gorgeous as well as music, speakers, entertainment, food and drink.

Barry Pride has also received £3,000 support from the Vale council’s new events fund towards total costs of £7,000.

The fund exists to support new events which contribute to the local economy and drive footfall.

Barry Pride said there would be a window display competition for all businesses across Barry and everyone is invited to host an event throughout the day which will be included on a central map.

Sponsors Spectrum Collections said: ‘We are so happy to sponsor Barry Pride as local business women but most importantly as part of the local community.

“We've lived in Barry our whole lives and we love the town because of the general warmth of the people who live here too, it's a wonderful place to live and start a business.

“We want to share the feeling of support we had as a start-up and give back to the community through a celebration of love and mutual respect for all Barry residents.

“Barry's first Pride festival feels like an amazing opportunity to do so and we are very excited to celebrate with everyone.”

Applications for stallholders are open and the team hope to speak to any community groups or food and drink traders who would like to be involved.
