MISSY REUNITED

A ‘VETERAN’ cat has been reunited with her owner – three months after going missing from her Barry home.

Twenty-year-old black and white cat, Missy was found unsteady, on her feet and staggering in Cwrt Gwenllian, on Saturday, June 15.

But RSPCA Cymru managed to reunite missing Missy with her owners thanks to her microchip.

RSPCA inspector Izzy Hignell said: “This poor cat was found very hungry and very dirty, had a large matt on her back.

“At RSPCA Merthyr Tydfil veterinary clinic she was scanned for a microchip and we’ve been able to track down her owners.

“I was delighted to be able to phone up her owners, to tell them she had been found, who were very surprised to hear she was alive.

“Shockingly she has been missing for around three months and they thought due to her old age she had died.”

Missy is now doing well after receiving veterinary treatment and she has gone home to her owners.

Ms Hignell added: “This is a great example of how important microchipping cats can be.

“Microchipping your pet gives them the best chance of being identified and returned to you if they become lost - and that was certainly the case with Missy.”

Her owner said they were “delighted” to have her home.

“Missy had gone missing when snow had fallen a few months back.

“It wasn’t like her,” said her owner. “But we thought with the snow and her age she had gone somewhere to die. We are delighted to have her home and she is doing really well.”

The RSPCA is reminding people to get their pets microchipped to give their lost pets the chance of returning home.

It is also important to register the chip with a national database and update your contact details if you move or change phone number.
