THE Penarth Open Studio Trail is set to return this weekend.

It is a walking trail around Penarth, visiting artist studios on the way.

The festival puts a spotlight on the many talented artists of Penarth, often busy creating work but hidden from sight - whether in a room in their house, or a purpose built studio.

The art trail will give a visibility boost to Penarth's creatives, helping them share their passions, and give artists a chance to meet others, discuss and sell their work.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the open workshops and try out new art methods, under the guidance of professionals.

Cathy O'Doherty of Glass by Design is one of the organisers of the trail.

She said: "The event started back in 2013, originally as part of the Penarth Summer Festival. It has been growing every year and from 2016 it became a stand- alone event held on the last weekend of June.

"There is an ongoing need to encourage creative activity in our community and this trail gives anyone wishing to participate the chance to do so without being judged, just the pleasure of sharing the love of their own work and the creative processes involved."

There are 34 artists opening their doors this year over from Friday June 28, to Sunday June 30. Events run each day from 10am to 4pm.

Workshops are encouraged to pick themes. Glass by Design and Andrew Coslett's have picked "Sharing the Love", to mark the 50th anniversary of The Summer of ’69.

Flower power is the name of the game, so if you fancy dropping in to make a miniature glass flower, or have a go at painting one, ‘Get Back’ to your creative core before the ‘Day is Done’. There’s no ‘Bad Moon Rising’ in Penarth this weekend.

Please pick up the trail maps from Glass By Design, Penarth Library or Artisans Corner or email sales@glassbydesign.co.uk for a downloadable version. The map will have the opening days of individual studios. For more information, visit the festival page on Facebook as Penarth Open Studio Trail 2019.
