Firefighters from three stations rushed to a large fire on the M6.
Crews from Carlisle and Brampton were called just before 3pm today.
A spokesman from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: "Three fire engines from Carlisle and Brampton attended a Large Vehicle Fire on the M6 near junction 44.
"The fire involved one Large Goods Vehicle traction unit.
"Crews used two hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire."
Traffic has now returned to normal.
