Update 8.34am:

A spokeswoman from Gwent Police said: "The collision involved a blue Range Rover Sport and a Honda motorcycle.

"Officers along with the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

"Sadly, the ride of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the car suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.

"A 71 year old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation.

"Officers are requesting any motorists using the road around this time to please check any dash cam footage that may provide further information that will assist officers with their enquiries.

"Anyone with any information or anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Gwent Police on 101 or Direct Message us on Facebook or Twitter, quoting log 388 of 28/07/19."

A MOTORCYCLIST was killed in a crash involving a car on the A4042 between Goytre and Llanellen

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: "Officers were called to a report of a serious road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the A4042 between Hardwick Roundabout and Llanover.

"Officers along with the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service are currently on the scene.

"The road remains closed and diversions are in place which will cause congestion.

"Please avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes for your journey.

"Officers are requesting any motorists using the road around this time to please check any dash cam footage that may provide further information that will assist officers with their enquiries."

Police later confirmed the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and a 71-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
