A FIREFIGHTING trio will swap engines for bicycles when they attempt to cycle 181 miles from Caernarfon to Cardiff in a day.

Mark Potter, 50, of Barry, and colleagues Keith White, 56, and Alan Thomas, 43, are going the distance in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre and the Fire Fighters Charity on Wednesday, August 21.

Mr Potter, who has been based in Barry, and Cardiff Central, Ely, and Whitchurch, for 12 years said he and his colleagues were hoping to raise funds and awareness during their Caernarfon to Cardiff In A Day Challenge.

Mr Potter said: “As a team we all work for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

“Both of the charities that we are raising money for mean a great deal to us all.

“The Fire Fighters Charity because we have had many colleagues who over the years have been helped and treated by the charity to enable them to not just stay in work but to stay in a career that means a lot to every firefighter, to rescue, help and assist people from a wide range of difficult situations.

“All of the team either have family members, or friends that have been touched by cancer, who in those difficult times have been helped by Velindre hospital, with treatment and support from an outstanding team of people who not only provide treatment but give care and hope to the people that are with them.

“Any donations for these worthy charities will be much appreciated.”
