THE Vale of Glamorgan Birth and Death Registration Office has become a permanent feature at University Hospital Llandough, giving Penarth residents a more convenient place to register births and deaths.

Formerly located at West House in Penarth, the new onsite service has been running on a trial basis since January 2019.

It received overwhelmingly positive feedback, and the new partnership between the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board now allows families to register deaths and births on the hospital grounds.

This will also provide the opportunity to extend the service to undertake marriage and civil partnership notifications in future.

This offers families and the community the opportunity to register with convenience, removing the need for some to travel to the main Register Office in Barry – particularly helpful for families experiencing trauma or bereavement.

The Registration Office is located on the first floor of the hospital, adjacent to the Bereavement Office.

Eddie Williams, cabinet member for legal, planning and regulatory services said: “Change, be it positive or negative, can be an unsettling experience for individuals and families. By streamlining the service, it will help reduce pressure on our residents as they make these challenging transitions.

“We are grateful for the support of the hospital bereavement staff, who are helping deliver the service.”

Ruth Walker, executive nurse director at Cardiff and Vale UHB, said: “By working in partnership with the Vale council, the UHB is striving to better accommodate those who use our services, particularly at difficult times in their lives. We are pleased to continue to work with our colleagues in the Local Authority to provide this important service.”
