A Glasgow neighbourhood has been named one of the top 50 coolest in the world.

Global media brand Time Out has curated an exclusive list of cool and exciting neighbourhoods based on their overall 'buzz', new venues, cost of living and the best cultural experience.

And a west end area has made the esteemed list.

Glasgow's historic Kelvinbridge placed 37th in the top 50, being recognised alongside some of the world's most beautiful locations including Tokyo, LA, Berlin and Bangkok.

From the scenic riverside footpath beneath the Kelvin Bridge to the towering glass panels of the Botanic Gardens, it's no wonder the area captured the eyes - and hearts - of both Glaswegians and those behind the list.

The student-friendly hub was also highlighted for all things retro, taking in its vibrant scene of vintage fashion, classic books and well-worn vinyl.

Food and drink also influenced the decision of many, with Time Out tipping their hats to riverfront craft beer bad Inn Deep and traditional boozer The Doublet.

Indy music station LP Radio also got a shoutout, with their record shop-turned-studio turning the heads of many a music fan.

More than 27,000 people across the world marked Kelvinbridge worthy of the list - and we couldn't agree more.

Glasgow Times:

Other neighbourhoods include Arroios in Lisbon, which managed to grab the top spot, as well as Shimokitazawa in Tokyo, Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles and Astoria in New York.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council told the Evening Times: “The world’s top travel guides and websites have been heaping praise on Glasgow as a culturally-rich destination with an unrivalled visitor experience for some time now.

"Earlier this year, Time Out ranked Glasgow eighth in its list of the 48 best destinations in the world for 2019 as well as first for friendliness and affordability – it’s great to see them now shining a spotlight on Kelvinbridge which has emerged as a go-to neighbourhood in the city’s West End, alongside the likes of Finnieston, with its growing reputation for vintage shopping and an ever-evolving culinary scene.

"The diversity of our neighbourhoods is increasingly appealing to international visitors who are looking for authentic travel experiences and want to live like a local.”

James Manning, Global Projects Editor of Time Out, said: “With its vintage and design shops, strong café scene, restaurants and bars, green spaces and culture spots, Kelvinbridge was the ideal Glasgow neighbourhood to feature on this global list.

"At Time Out we're always searching for the best of the city, and Kelvinbridge fits that bill perfectly.

"These 50 neighbourhoods are places where you’ll find delicious food, incredible bars and cutting-edge art, culture and nightlife at every turn, as well as proud, progressive city-dwellers promoting the values of diversity and coexistence.

"From Bangkok to Barcelona, Taipei to Toronto and Havana to Hobart, these are the neighbourhoods you should be exploring right now.”
