Emergency services were called to Newtown after they received a report of a possible “sighting” of a person in the river.
Firefighters from Welshpool, Aberystwyth, Newtown and Montgomery were called to help police officers at the Cambrian Bridge near McDonalds.
Dyfed-Powys Police said no-one was found following an extensive search that started at about 5.30pm on Sunday, November 10.
A police spokeswoman said: “An extensive search was carried out during the evening and the next morning however no-one was found. There were no outstanding missing persons at the time.”
A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue said: “Crews from Welshpool, Aberystwyth, Newtown and Montgomery were called to assist the Police at a search for a missing person near Cambrian Bridge, Cambrian Way, Newtown.”
He added: “Firefighters were later withdrawn from the search until first light on the following morning. The fire service left the incident at 9.47am, on Monday, November 11.”
