PENARTH Town Mayor, cllr Angela Thomas will be hosting a special Carers Rights Day event on Thursday, November 21 at West House, Stanwell Road, from 1 to 3pm.

As a carer to her adult daughter herself, the mayor would like to invite residents to come and chat to other carers and gain more information on your rights.

The event is supported by the Vale council carers service and other services and providers.

Therapies will be available from Emma Blake Jones and Ann Williams from Soul Angels Project.

This is one of hundreds of groups across the UK taking part in Carers Rights Day, which falls on that Thursday.

Carers Rights Day is an annual national awareness campaign organised by the charity Carers UK.

The charity aims to reach the 6.5m carers in the UK with information about their rights, and the financial and practical help they are entitled to.

These include benefits, such as Carer’s Allowance, breaks and access to equipment and technology which can help them in their caring role.

This year the charity is encouraging people to think about how caring might affect them, now and in the future, and what support they might need.

Carers UK publish the 'Looking after Someone' guide, which gives carers the full picture of the practical and financial support available to them.

The new 2020 guide can be ordered from shopcarersuk.org.
