A PENARTH bar is set to celebrate its first birthday – with the launch of its very own ‘Penarth Gin’.

Gin 64, of Victoria Road, plans to celebrate their its birthday with a party on November 30.

Over the course of the year, the enterprising owners – Ashley Boucher and Jacques Aviles – have seen the bar go from strength to strength, getting involved in the manufacturing process and even being filmed by BBC Wales.

Penarth Gin was described by manager Gareth Llywellyn as a premium, triple distilled Welsh dry gin, naturally prominent with notes of juniper, liquorice, cardamom citrus, orris root and paradise.

Mr Boucher said: “From humble beginnings we have had a successful year and we can only thank our customers and staff for ensuring such a prosperous start, turning our dreams into reality.

“As soon as we opened we knew we would be interested in venturing into the spirit manufacturing market and have since produced our very own Penarth Gin.”

Mr Aviles said: “We were selected by the BBC to take part in a new docuseries highlighting successful Welsh businesses run by young entrepreneurs. It looks at the journey each business has been through to get to where they are now and what plans they have for the future.

“Gin 64 was chosen for its unique style and that we set it up together, two cousins under the age of 30.

“Filming took place over four sessions in the last six months, with the final planned shoot for the first year anniversary party. We’re very excited.”

Mr Boucher and Mr Aviles, along with new business partner David Cole, now plan to expand across South Wales and the West Country.

The programme will be aired sometime before Christmas with the exact date still to be set.
