FROM the Archive this week features an early photograph of the Barry Hotel, in Broad Street, in around 1905.
In the background on the right is the Market Hall.
The Masonic Hall in Broad Street, Barry, had not yet been built.
Behind the hotel on the left on Windsor Road is the allotment garden of the hotel growing a variety of apple, plum, and pear trees with beds of strawberries and raspberries also rich herb beds of parsley and sage.
The hotel was constructed by Mr T. A. Walker who was also a contractor for the construction of the Manchester Ship Canal, Barry Dock, and the Severn Tunnel.
The Barry & District News would like to thank Cllr Shirley Hodges for the photograph and information.
If you have an old Barry photograph you would like to see included, with information about what it depicts, email sha@barryanddistrictnews.co.uk
