A SALON that marked its 20th anniversary by raising £1200 for charity, last June, is hoping to re-open for its 21st year this summer.

Beauty Within of Penarth, in Cornerswell Road, Penarth, raised the funds for MS Society Cymru when the business hosted a grand party for its loyal clients, family and friends in the Penarth Masonic Hall, on June 1 last year.

The business, which first opened on May 31, 1999, is owned by Rachel Laity, 42, and run with her business partner, Victoria John, 45.

But one year on, the salon has been closed to the public since coronavirus lockdown measures were introduced in March this year.

"The (charity) evening raised a staggering £1,200 in total, all of which will make a significant difference to the charity. Sian from the MS Society Cymru said: “This really is an amazing donation and your support will allow us to continue to provide vital services for people affected by MS and to invest in groundbreaking medical research."

To top off the evening of celebration the girls surprised everyone with some jaw-dropping performances by the incredible Valley Boys, a professional tribute act of west end singers dedicated to the Jersey Boys. The evening was a huge success and was enjoyed by all who were present.

Miss Laity said: “It’s hard to believe that as we reflect a year on, that things are currently so different for all of us but hopefully not for much longer.

“When the government announced all businesses were to close to protect society due to the covid-19 pandemic, it raised a lot of distress and uncertainty for many businesses, Beauty Within of Penarth included.”

But during the lockdown period, the pair have been - in line with ongoing government advice - been things in place to ensure they are ready to return when the go-ahead is given for the business to re-open.

All existing and new clients will be assured of the usual warm welcome to the salon that previously existed.

Both therapists have completed the Barbicide Certification for Beauty Industry Professionals, which endorses customer health and safety as priority.

They have also introduced a few measures in support of government guidance which include adding perspex screens in treatment rooms for those clients who attend regularly for nail appointments.

Masks will be worn at all times and clients will be offered a cleaning station for handwashing, which has been set up in both treatment rooms.

They will continue to offer a personal experience to all their clients with appointments limited to two per the salon at any one time, which will support the social distancing measures which may be introduced.

Clients will also be offered greater flexibility with booking appointments with opening hours being extended and available into the evening along with loyalty cards being introduced.

“Above all else you can be sure to receive a warm welcome and can expect to leave feeling invigorated,” Miss Laity added. “We have been overwhelmed and cannot wait to welcome you back with open arms very soon.”

The pair thank all their loyal customers for the kindness and support they have shown during this period of uncertainty.
