A HUGE amount of fly-tipping which was dumped at a layby on Leckwith Road this week has been condemned by the Vale council and community councillor Chris Franks.
The heap of mess near Llandough Hospital which is believed to have appeared there overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday, is the latest of a string of fly-tipping incidents which Mr Franks says has become particularly problematic on Beauville Lane in Dinas Powys.
"Unfortunately it's becoming an all too regular occurrence and is upsetting," Mr Franks said. "It is a serious health hazard, especially for the people who have to clean this up.
"Goodness knows what is being deposited. And there is also a significant environmental aspect."
Mr Franks has reminded those thinking of dumping their waste that recycling centres are now open subject to appointment.

"This is a main link road into the Vale and for people to see this is on their way here is deplorable," he added.
A spokesman for Vale of Glamorgan Council said: "The Council is aware of this instance of fly-tipping on Leckwith Road and officers have been sent to clear the waste. Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact the Council.
“We are also aware of incidents around the Beauville Lane area of Dinas Powys. Our environmental enforcement officers regularly patrol known fly-tipping hotspots and respond to any reports relating to this offence.
“Fly-tipping is a crime and an issue we take extremely seriously. Anyone found to be committing this type of offence could face serious consequences, which include being issued with a fixed penalty notice”, prosecution, fines of up to £50,000 or even imprisonment.”
