A Vale council spokesman said: “Two members of staff employed at Palmerston school have tested positive for covid-19, following an onset of symptoms prior to the school reopening.

“In line with the process for schools in Wales a full risk assessment has been undertaken by Public Health Wales.

"This has concluded that the school is safe to remain open.

“Wide ranging measures had been taken at the school prior to reopening to pupils this week and these measures have proved effective in protecting pupils and staff from further transmission of the virus.

“The council’s top concern in managing schools is always the pupils and our staff.

"While we don’t have any control of the virus, in this case the possible risk to pupils has been kept to a minimum by good planning by the school and excellent leadership by the head teacher when responding to the situation.”
