AN idea formulated during the coronavirus lockdown has resulted in a chain of knitted rainbows making a trail destined for Llandough Hospital in Penarth.

Resident, Christine Kerr has knitted rainbows and hung them on a route to the hospital - starting at Dingle Park and then on to Windsor Road, Cogan, around the Cogan leisure centre, through Andrew Road up the hill and then up to the Llandough Hospital gates.

And several volunteers have joined the effort to raise funds and awareness for the Cardiff and the Vale Health Board key workers.

The first rainbow appeared on April, 27 this year.

Ms Kerr said: “About two weeks in lockdown and living alone I wanted to be able to focus my mind and knitting rainbows certainly did that.

“Since the start I have had several Penarth ladies volunteer to knit with me and so around eight of us form the core volunteer.

“We are fundraising for Cardiff and the Vale Health Board to benefit doctors, nurses and hospital workers.

“We have so many compliments from passers-by and they love the display and the wonderful colours - and Penarthians are giving their support.

“The journey is 1.5 miles and we are halfway up Andrew Road and the last leg will be up the hill to the gates of Llandough Hospital.

“We think we’ll finish about the third week in August.”
