A SPONSORED walk around Barry will take place this Sunday, September 6 in support of the family of a baby who needs a bone marrow transplant.

Supporters will leave Barry Island at 11am, for a seven to eight mile walk, to show their backing for 10-month-old Reign Miller-Hardy who was diagnosed with a rare medical disorder - haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and X-linked lymphoproliferative disorder (XLP1) on August 7 this year.

The funds raised will help support his parents, Ashleigh Miller, 32, and Scott Hardy, 29, who have to take turns to visit him in the Great North Children’s Hospital, in Newcastle upon Tyne, due to covid-19 restrictions.

The Welsh Blood Service has organised a stall and it is hoped people will sign up to the bone marrow register and potentially become a suitable match for Reign or anyone requiring a transplant.

Reign’s auntie, Lisa Evans, 32, said: “I have arranged a sponsored walk to raise vital funds for Reigns parents whilst up in Newcastle.

“It’s a full walk around the outskirts of Barry.

“I already have over 60 people signed up so far hoping more will come along and show support.”

Reign is undergoing intense chemotherapy to suppress the HLH XLP1 symptoms.

He has had multiple blood transfusions, lumbar punctures, and several rounds of chemo, as well as numerous scans and tests.

He was airlifted to Great North Children's Hospital, from the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, on August 18 .

Great North is specialist children's hospital that works with Great Ormond Street to provide intense and urgent care to critically ill children.
