THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has agreed to fund seven projects following the latest round of applications to its Strong Communities Grant Fund.

The fund was established to support feasibility work, improve the resilience of groups and assist capital projects.

Since it was launched in August 2017, £781,722 has been allocated to 56 initiatives across the County with an overall value in excess of £2.74 million.

A new funding allocation of £837,533 for the five-year period from April 2020 to March 2025 has been agreed by the Council’s Cabinet and the first projects to be awarded a share of that pot revealed.

  • 1st Penmark Scouts in Rhoose will receive £21,750 for a toilet and kitchen refurbishment.
  • Bro Radio were successful in a £22,798 bid to fit out new premises in Llantwit Major, expanding their coverage into the rural Vale.
  • A sum of £16,371 was awarded to Cadog’s Corner, a charity launched by Cadoxton Primary School to tackle food poverty, for a toilet refurbishment.
  • Cowbridge tennis club will benefit from £12,000 towards a new tennis court.
  • Innovate trust 8, which provide support and guidance for disabled people, is to gain £12,198 for a digital support project.
  • Llandow village hall will receive £20,000 to help pay for a new roof.
  • Corntown Cricket Club’s application for £14,142 for a toilet refurbishment was also successful.

Cllr Lis Burnett, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, said: “We have joined forces with the Waterloo Foundation, Natural Resources Wales, Glamorgan Voluntary Service and representatives of the Town and Community Councils to support schemes that can have a real impact in their local areas.

“In this latest round of funding, seven worthwhile projects have been successful and I know the money received will make a major difference.”
