A THANKFUL Penarth woman involved in a nasty accident last week has thanked the emergency services who helped her.

Viv Edwards was enjoying a day off work with her three-year-old niece last Thursday morning, and took her to Belle Vue Park.

As they were leaving the park, Viv said her right side wing mirror got caught in the metal railings, and detached itself from the car.

“I opened the door to retrieve it from the floor and as I did my car rolled backwards, leaving my arm crushed,” she said. “The broken bone was entangled in the railing, and I couldn’t dislodge it.

“Unaware of the severity of the situation due to complete shock at the time, I later found out my bone had snapped in two places, and had broken through the skin.”

Specialist teams including the air ambulance and the fire service (from Ely and Penarth) were quickly on the scene. Emergency treatment was given and Viv was then driven to the University Hospital of Wales.

“I was very lucky that there were some mums in the park at the time who noticed I was in distress and called the emergency services,” she added.

“They looked after my niece until her mum arrived. I was really worried about my niece getting upset so I was trying to remain as calm as possible.

"She was great though, I don't think she even realised what was happening.

“Fortunately, due to the quick response by everyone at the scene, I have now been discharged from hospital and will hopefully regain the use of my arm soon.
