A GENEROUS Penarth woman has celebrated her 60th birthday by raising £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Vikki Edwards, a former nurse who has raised thousands for charity throughout her life, said she decided to give to Macmillan after a close friend and a relative were diagnosed with cancer.

Partially disabled – Vikki wanted to mark the occasion by doing a fundraiser which wasn’t too strenuous – and decided to have her head shaved.

It isn’t the first time she’s braved the shave for charity, having done the same to raise lots for mental health charity MIND when she turned 40.

“I have been moaning a lot in the build up to my 60th, but actually I realised I’m so lucky to be generally well,” Vikki said.

Due to her disability Vikki has spent the last few months in self isolation, and says she has loved the experience.

“It’s been quite strange but actually I’ve loved it – it’s been a great time to reflect and realise what I have in life,” she added.

“I came out of lockdown realising that I have so much to be grateful for, and I wanted to give something back.

“I can’t thank people enough for their donations, especially during very difficult financial times.

"Considering I didn’t share the fundraiser very widely I’ve had a fantastic response from friends and family.”
