RESIDENTS are urged to be alert to rogue traders who have been operating in parts of the Vale of Glamorgan.
They have been targeting elderly residents, offering to complete basic gardening and house maintenance for inflated prices.
Recent incidents in Sully, Barry and Llantwit Major include a vigilant bank clerk contacted officers concerned when an elderly woman tried to withdraw thousands of pounds for work done to her home in Sully.
Another elderly woman was duped into handing over money to two men who claimed to be calling and checking guttering on behalf of a neighbour.

An unknown man has tried to charge a man in his 80s, £1,200 for power washing his drive.
In these instances, little to no work had been carried out.
A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "Please be vigilant to these kinds of scams, look out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours and contact police should you have any concerns.
"Rogue traders often target elderly or vulnerable customers and will use forceful tactics and intimidation to secure work.
"People are urged to look out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours and relatives."
Anybody who suspects rogue trading should call 101 immediately.
In an emergency they should dial 999.
