SIXTY-EIGHT new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed across the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board in the last 24 hours, according to Public Health Wales.

Fifty-five of those are in Cardiff and 13 are in the Vale.

Overall in Wales today, 388 new cases have been confirmed along with one new coronavirus-related death.

Across Wales since the pandemic began, there have now been 23,985 confirmed cases.

The case rate among 100,000 of the population in the Vale is 9.7, which remains relatively low compared to the rest of Wales. That rate in Cardiff is 15.

The news comes on the day eight patients died with coronavirus at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital following an outbreak at the site - linked to 60 cases in the Rhondda area.

Planned surgeries have been temporarily stopped and patients who would usually be taken to A&E in an emergency will be sent elsewhere.
