ONE of the UK's fastest growing variety retailers is preparing to open its store in the Barry Waterfront Retail Park on Saturday, November 21.

The B&M store is set to provide employment for 70 people with more staff wanted.

The store itself is 39,000 square foot and it includes a 10,000 square foot garden centre.

It is based in the former Poundstretcher store which closed in September this year.

Project manager James Williamson, who is leading the new store development, said: B&M have wanted to come to Barry for some time, but we had to find the perfect location before doing so.

“B&M are growing at a phenomenal pace so finding the right location where we can stay and grow is key - also making sure it is right for the people living in Barry and for all the visitors.

“This location was perfect for us as it is on a busy retail park with other retailers nearby.

“It has a good size car park with the added benefit of a big garden centre.”

“We have employed around 70 members of staff,” Mr Williamson said. “They are all from different backgrounds and different work experiences.

“We have also employed some of the staff who unfortunately lost their jobs when Poundstretcher closed.

“Roles range from management to customer service assistants.

“We are looking for more staff.

“They can apply by dropping a CV into store from now and even when we are open on November 21.”

Customers can expect a wide range of products - from grocery, to electrical, furniture and DIY.

There is also a seasonal range.

Mr Williamson added: “We encourage all customers and staff to keep at a safe two-metre distance while in and out of the store.

“There will be a sanitising station upon entry.

“We hope that customers could be patient on opening day as we expect to be extremely busy.

“We may need to implement a queuing system if the customers inside exceed covid guidelines.

“B&M are super excited to become part of the community and we are looking forward to greeting all of our new and existing customers through our doors.

“We are hoping to bring something new that the people and visitors of Barry haven't seen before.”

Normal opening hours will be Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm, and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

The launch day opening event is scheduled for 9am.
