THE Armistice Day wreath laying ceremony and two-minute silence were held outside of on the Civic Office forecourt in Barry,
The service was streamed via the council’s social media channels on Wednesday, November 11.
Adhering to government social distancing guidance, the ceremony was limited to the mayor, deputy lieutenant, high sheriff, Vale council political leaders and representatives of the Armed Forces, Merchant Navy Association, War Widows Association, RAFA and the Royal British Legion.

The short service was streamed via Facebook Live, capturing a welcome announcement from the mayor, who said:
“Today the 11th November, we are here commemorating Armistice Day, and in a few moments, it will be 11 o’clock.
“Despite the difficulties posed by the coronavirus pandemic, we have gathered in limited numbers to observe the two-minute silence.
"Let us pause and remember those who gave their lives in two world wars and in more than 70 other conflicts, that we might enjoy the peace and freedom obtained at such a high price.”
The start and end of the silence were marked by the playing of the Last Post and Reveille, with the service ending with the national anthems.
