Vale MP, Alun Cairns said: "This is unacceptable and we’ve been in this position many times elsewhere across the Vale over recent months.
"The council need to put up the most robust response in the interest of locals who live in the community.
"They need to take measures to stop this from happening time and again.
"It’s not fair on local residents and such car parks do not have the facilities required by travellers.”
The Waterfront Retail Park is privately owned.
A Vale of Glamorgan Council spokesman confirmed that the caravans had moved on.
