BARRY ISLAND had the highest rates of Covid-19 cases in the Vale of Glamorgan last week, according to data published by Public Health Wales.

Barry Island saw the most new cases with 32 (in the week up to November 28) – meaning 62 cases were recorded in the area in the 21 days up to November 28.

Peterston and Wenvoe recorded the most cases in the east of the Vale last week with 25 – a significant jump on previously weekly cases. It means in the 21 days up to November 28 the area recorded 45 cases.

The jump in Peterston and Wenvoe and Barry Island is reflected in the weekly rolling case rates for the areas – used as a yardstick to provide an idea of how quickly the virus is spreading in localities.

In Barry Island the rolling case rate last week was 328.3 cases per 100,000, while in Peterston and Wenvoe it was 327.8 per 100,000.

Last week the average weekly rolling case rate for Wales was 217.8.
