Cassiobury Park has been voted as one of the top ten parks in Britain.

Environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy has been asking the public to vote for their favourite parks which have been awarded a Green Flag Award – an award given to the nation’s best-managed parks and greenspaces.

Some 59,000 people took part in a poll this year, casting their vote to decide on Britain’s best loved green and open spaces.

Watford Observer:

The results saw Cassiobury Park ranked as one of the top 10 most popular parks, joining winners from across England, Scotland and Wales.

Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “Cassiobury is the jewel in Watford’s crown – an amazing beauty spot with a lot of history behind it. The park has met the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award and this recognition is an acknowledgement to the hard work of the teams and volunteers that make them such great places.

“Parks and green spaces have never been more important to us as we grapple with the coronavirus pandemic – they have been a haven for us to escape to and we are blessed to so many excellent ones to choose from in our town, including Cassiobury Park.”

Cassiobury Park and Whippendell Wood also received a Green Heritage Site Award this year, in recognition of achieving the required standard in the management and interpretation of a site with local or national historic importance.

Keep Britain Tidy's International Green Flag Award manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate our ten worthy winners and thank all the thousands of parks staff and volunteers across the country who have gone the extra mile this year to ensure our country’s parks and green spaces remain such fantastic places to escape to and enjoy.”

“We know how important quality parks are to people of all ages in every corner of the UK and so, for these parks, this public recognition of just how much they are loved and valued is a real achievement.”
