The Penarth Times' We’re in it Together campaign is here to help direct you to any services you may need and show what services are on hand that you may not know you needed.

A NEW business has opened in Penarth who are helping deliver freshly cooked meals to the elderly and vulnerable in lockdown.

On a Plate Services, located in The Barons Court, Penarth, opened in the beginning of December Jayne Haywood and Jemma Evans.

The national lockdown brought to their attention the number of residents that struggled to get meals without a support network - especially now that we are moving into winter.

So, both decided to open On a Plate to help provide people in Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan with fresh, home cooked meals, delivered to their door.

“We wanted to initially be up and running during the first lockdown but due to premises issue we had to delay which was devastating,” they said.

“We are now fortunate to be in a position now to be able to cater for them and help keep them safe, by providing healthy, good quality, delicious meals.

“We feel very passionate about the service that we can provide to the elderly and vulnerable and any others that may benefit from our services”.

They have been friends and business partners for many years, and founded and run Willowmere Home Care in Barry.

“We had a really successful first month,” they added.

Cardiff South and Penarth MP Stephen Doughty said: “I’m delighted to hear about the Penarth Times ‘We’re in it Together’ campaign. The paper has continued to be a valuable source of local information throughout the last 10 months – which have been incredibly difficult for everyone.

“Over these tough times, as well as our NHS, Care, public sector, and key workers, we’ve seen an amazing effort by local individuals and organisations, businesses and volunteers, to help those who have been struggling.

“So many people are doing selfless work to help others in our community - whether neighbours or family, strangers or friends - and we owe them a great deal. They don’t do it for recognition, but they deserve our sincere thanks and appreciation.”
