DEPUTY Minister and Assembly Member for the Vale of Glamorgan, Jane Hutt, welcomes the news that Welsh Government flood payments will support those whose homes were devastated by the December floods.

In the wake of Storm Christoph battering much of North Wales this week, Welsh Minister for Environment Lesley Griffiths stated:

"These are truly unprecedented times. We will support people in these circumstances just as we did in the aftermath of storms Ciara and Dennis last year by working with local authorities to make support payments of between £500 and £1,000 available for each household flooded."

This support does apply to the many residents of Sully, Cogan, Llandough and Dinas Powys who awoke on Christmas Eve to find their homes filled with water.

Jane Hutt said: "It is great news that funding will be made by the Welsh Government to Dinas Powys residents devastated by the floods of 23rd December with support payments of £500 and £1,000 for affected households.

"Since 23rd December I have been working to support the people of Dinas Powys who were severely affected by the floods.

"Meeting with the Welsh Government Environment Minister, Lesley Griffiths MS, the Vale Council, NRW, Welsh Water and the residents group that has been set up in the village.

"The Welsh Government payments will also boost the wonderful support given through the Just Giving campaign, Dinas Powys Community Council and charitable trusts."

Jane Hutt MS will be hosting an open meeting on Friday 29th January 2021 from 5-6:30pm to provide an update for residents.
