The Vale of Glamorgan is in for a wet weekend, with weather warnings in place and flooding possible.

Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, across most of the Vale of Glamorgan, on Friday (February 19), Saturday (February 20), and Sunday (February 21).

People living or working in the Vale can expect persistent rain, getting heavy at times.

Flooding of homes and businesses is likely, with the wet weather conditions potentially making journey times longer. It’s also possible that this rain may cause interruptions to power supplies and other services.

Here are some tips, from Met Office, for people who have to drive in the rain...

  • If it's time to use your wipers it's time to slow down - rain can reduce your ability to see and be seen.
  • Avoid starting your journey in heavy downpour.
  • If possible choose main roads as this will reduce the likelihood of being exposed to fallen branches and debris and flooding.
  • If visibility is seriously reduced use dipped headlights.
  • If there are gusts of winds grip your steering wheel firmly with both hands, particularly when planning to overtake.
  • Ensure that you maintain enough room either side of your vehicle so you can account for it being blown sideways.
  • Roads will be more slippery in wet weather - increase your following gap to at least four seconds from the moving traffic in front.
  • Give vulnerable road users including cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians more room than usual. They are more likely to be blown around by side winds, so keep a safe distance.
  • Keep your eyes peeled on the road at all times.
  • Anticipate other drivers' actions and be prepared.
  • Never drive through flooded road - this is the number one cause of death during flooding, so turn around and find a new route.
