THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has begun planning for the future of Penarth Pier Pavilion – and would now like others to share their thoughts on how it can function as an arts and community space.

After previous operators Penarth Arts and Crafts Limited (PACL) surrendered its lease, the Council stepped in to take over management of the pavilion.

Now the Authority is focusing on the next exciting chapter for this iconic building, which will be retained as a community facility.

Extensive cleaning and maintenance work is already under way, while today sees the launch of a public conversation about the potential future ways the building could be used.

This is designed to capture residents’ opinions on how the building can fulfil its role as a community asset.

Those wishing to share their views can do so by completing a survey on the Council website or by calling Contact One Vale on 01446 700111.

Work to ensure the Council’s Big Fresh Catering Company can operate a cafe from the pavilion has already started and this is due to open shortly.

Cllr Kathryn McCaffer, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, said: “Having recently taken over operation of Penarth Pier Pavilion, we have quickly set about assessing the condition of the building, arranging repairs and organising for it to be thoroughly cleaned.

“This is a thrilling opportunity to re-establish the pavilion as a focal point for Penarth, a hub for the arts and a space that the whole community can enjoy

“We already have a number of exciting ideas for how that can be achieved but would also love to hear suggestions from residents as we enter a new era for this historic building.”
