NEWPORT County AFC will be greeted by protesting Southend supporters when they turn up at Roots Hall for their crunch game in the race for the play-offs on Saturday.

The Shrimpers were relegated from League Two despite beating Barrow on Saturday and the clash with the Exiles, who need a point to secure a play-off spot, will end their 101-year stay in the Football League.

The Save Our Southend group have organised a protest for midday at Roots Hall, asking fans to wear a mask and stay socially-distanced when showing their displeasure at chairman Ron Martin.

The game kicks off at 3pm and away teams normally arrive at grounds around 90 minutes before the start time.

“Although this demonstration needs to be a show of fan unity and a united voice for change at our club, this also needs to be a respectable demonstration,” said Save Our Southend.

“Please remember that if you are attending. The police will not hesitate to deal with those failing to do so.”

A demonstration was held at Roots Hall last month ahead of Southend’s win against Leyton Orient.
