CO-OP is set to re-launch with a fresh look following a £750,000 refurbishment.
Located in Windsor Road, Penarth, the near 2,000 sq ft convenience store - which officially opens on October 1 - runs on 100 per cent renewable electricity and supports 14 local jobs.
Following nearly four weeks of work, the store will be open daily (7am-10pm) and includes a bakery and Fairtrade everground coffee dispenser.
Co-op will also have an enhanced range of fresh healthy products, meal ideas, food-to-go, award winning wines, ready meals, pizzas, free-from, vegan and plant-based products, Fairtrade, and, everyday essentials.
The store also includes John Lewis Click & Collect parcel service. Deliveroo home delivery of groceries is being rolled out in the coming weeks and, the store has new self-service tills for added ease, speed and convenience.
Penarth’s Co-op also has a new recycle unit for ‘soft plastics’ which ensures all of Co-op’s own food packing is easy-to-recycle either via kerbside collection at home, or through this accessible disposal route for materials which are unlikely to be collected by UK councils. Earlier this year Co-op rolled-out Europe’s most extensive in-store soft plastic recycling scheme.
A funding boost is also provided locally through Co-op’s Membership programme. Membership of the Co-op unlocks additional value through in-store offers, and sees Members rewarded with 2p in every pound they spend on Co-op branded products which is added to their own personal Membership account balance. The Co-op also donates the same amount to local causes.
Students in Penarth who are TOTUM cardholders – the new name for NUS extra – receive a 10 per cent discount at the Co-op.
Co-op store manager, Gary Stent, said: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to carry out such a significant investment in Penarth, and we are really looking forward to welcoming members and customers into their new-look Co-op.
"We have worked to develop the range, choice, products and services locally to create a really compelling offer to serve our community.”
Co-op area manager, Giles Jenkins, added: “Co-op is committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally."
