THE number of coronavirus cases in the Vale of Glamorgan increased by 164 in the last 24 hours, official figures show – and two more deaths were recorded.

A total of 18,103 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in the Vale of Glamorgan when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on November 2 (Tuesday), up from 17,939 on Monday.

The rate of infection in the Vale of Glamorgan now stands at 13,380 cases per 100,000 people, lower than the Wales average of 14,045.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 33,546 over the period, to 9,130,857.

There were also two more coronavirus deaths recorded in the latest weekly period in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The dashboard shows 342 people had died in the area by October 22 (Friday) – up from 340 the week before.

They were among 8,522 deaths recorded across Wales.

The figures include anyone whose death certificate – registered in the week ending October 22 – mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes.

Deaths in Wales are recorded by registration date, and are allocated to the deceased's usual area of residence.
