PENARTH Pavilion will be holding an open day tomorrow – Saturday, December 11 – to show how the venue can be of benefit to the local community.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council took over operation of the building in February feedback has been analysed after a public consultation on how residents want to see the building used and they have organised a number of events across the last few months including children’s events, wreath making, musical performances and exhibitions – with many of the events being free.

By next June they hope to have held more than 200 events at the pavilion and are keen for the public to explore more possibilities.

There will be Bottomless Prosecco Afternoon Teas and Brunch with Santa in the run-up to Christmas as well as a New Year’s Eve Party – all subject to Covid regulations.

Tomorrow’s open day will begin at 11am with a carol singalong with the Salvation Army. People will then be invited inside the pavilion for tea, coffee and mince pies.

The gallery will have a table-top exhibition to show the work that has been done over the last 10 months since the council took the building over.

Snowcat Cinema will show people around the cinema and there is an opportunity to view the facilities available for weddings.

The event is free to attend and will finish at 4pm.

Cllr Kathryn McCaffer, Vale of Glamorgan Council cabinet member for leisure, arts and culture, said: “Our staff have worked incredibly hard over the last year to restore the pavilion to its former glory.

“Our aim is to establish the building as a hub for the whole community to enjoy so we are really keen to hear residents’ views and show them the changes that have been made.

“We want the pavilion to be a vibrant, varied space that can be a source of pride for locals and a focal point for visitors.

“So much has already been done, but we also have big plans for the future.”

The council opened The Big Fresh Café which is run by its catering company and offers a range of food and drink from local suppliers which can be consumed in-house or taken away. Profits from the café are used to contribute to the running costs of the pavilion and to fund healthy school meals for Vale pupils.

The pavilion has hosted wedding ceremonies and parties and the cinema and bar have reopened.
