The highest-rated cafe in Penarth on Tripadvisor, the Busy Teapot describes itself as a "family run cafe in the heart of Penarth" that serves "traditional homemade food and all day breakfasts".

Located on 27 Glebe Street, the Busy Teapot has had multiple positive reviews with 199 out of 256 reviews praising the cafe as excellent.

One reviewer said: "Fantastic cafe (no airs or grace), the quickness and friendliness of the service is is something special.

"Served with 2 x breakfasts, toast and tea within 5mins...then said sorry for the delay.

"The breakfast was good and the value was top drawer.

"The 2 x brothers are the ones that make it special."

Another person who left a five-star review said: "Great value cafe food - my children love it.

"Had lunch here again today - warm welcome and very family friendly.

"Easily the best cafe spoon in the Penarth area."

Keyif

Rated as the second-best dining establishment in Penarth, Keyif offers up a variety of Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine.

Also located on Glebe Street, Keyif has wide-ranging menu including kofte, shish and casserole dishes.

There is also a range of vegetarian options.

One reviewer said: "We visited this restaurant as the reviews were excellent. It did not disappoint.

"The whole experience from booking to the meal to leaving and goodbye was five star.

"You are made to feel very special with staff who have manners and always say please and thank you and go the extra mile.

"Then there is the food which is so authentic and incredibly tasty. Every mouthful was delicious!

"We will return many more times."

The Galley

Occupying third spot on the list is The Galley, a multiple-award winning cafe.

Originally called Compass Coffee, The Galley is located at Compass House in Penarth Marina.

There is a breakfast menu and a lunch menu, with both dominated by typical breakfast foods such as fry-ups and breakfast burritos.

The coffee served at The Galley is supplied by Fat Dragon Coffee Co, which is from rugby players Bradley Thyer and Welsh international Dillon Lewis.

One reviewer described the cafe as a "real gem" and went on to say: "Our food looked so good that people were stopping by our table to ask what we had ordered so they could have the same."

Another praised the staff and the range of blondies.

Ego at The Schooner Inn

Another place for fans of Mediterranean cuisine, Ego at the Schooner Inn is located on Lavernock Road.

The restaurant has had 710 reviews with only 50 of those rated as below average and 468 excellent reviews.

There are a lot of dishes on offer here, with Mediterranean options such as hanging kebabs and Iberian belly pork, to pizzas and pasta.

There are also more specialised menus for certain times, such as a Sunday roast menu.

What's more, the restaurant says that dogs will be welcomed to their "dog friendly area with tasty treats and a water bowl".

One reviewer said: "Love Ego. Apart from being close to where we live, the food is great and the staff are very helpful.

"We were given a free bottle of Prosecco for our anniversary, which is a nice touch."

Another said that the service was "excellent" and the staff "couldn't do enough".

They also described the food as "delicious" and praised the decor.

Pickford's Galley & Bar with Rooms

Although Pickford's may only have 76 reviews they have been overwhelmingly positive.

The only negative review came in February 2020 and commented on their capacity as a coffee stop and admitted it was "just what Penarth needs".

Located on the Esplanade, Pickford's has a great view over the sea front and has a wide variety of dishes on the menu.

As expected, there is a lot of seafood, but if that isn't your thing then there is plenty of other options.

Vegetarians and vegans are "well-catered for," said one reviewer.

One reviewer advised people not to visit Penarth "without visiting Pickford's" and commented on the "beautiful views".

Sid the waiter received multiple shout outs for his dedication to good service and is described as being "ridiculously good at his job".
