THE latest figures from Public Health Wales show that there have been almost 300 new Covid cases in the Vale of Glamorgan.

There 296 new Covid cases in the Vale as of 9am on Friday, January 7.

Cardiff once again has the most new cases of Covid in Wales, with 839.

There are 8,923 new cases in Wales including residents outside of Wales.

Eight more people have died in Wales, taking the toll to 6,634.

Of those eight, two people lived in the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board area, meaning that 901 people have died in the CVUHB area since the start of the pandemic.

Both Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan have reported case rates lower than the national average, which is 260.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Cardiff has a rate of 228.7 and the Vale has a rate of 221.6.
