A FISHING boat which broke up during a rescue operation has been cleared from Penarth beach.

RNLI’s Penarth crew were paged at 5.30pm on Saturday, February 26, to assist Barry Dock RNLI with aiding a broken-down fishing boat, which was sinking.

Volunteers at Barry Dock RNLI had been paged by Milford Haven coastguard at 1.40pm and sent out an all-weather lifeboat to tow the boat to Barry Harbour.

Once in the harbour it was decided that the boat needed to be removed from the water and RNLI Penarth were tasked to assist.

Just off Penarth the boat was “taking on water”. RNLI Penarth reports that “everyone aboard was recovered safely but unfortunately the boat couldn’t be saved”.

The volunteer crew alerted the public that the sinking boat was taken to Penarth beach for salvage to avoid it being lost at sea.

The broken-up boat was cleared from Penarth beach on Sunday, February 27, with the RNLI working with HM Coastguard and Vale of Glamorgan Council to “resolve the situation” and advising people to stay clear while work was carried out due to potential hazards.

“We’re pleased to say that the broken-up boat has now been cleared from Penarth beach,” reports RNLI Penarth.

“Thank you to HM Coastguard and Vale of Glamorgan council for their great work making the beach safe again.”
