WITH thousands of Ukrainians fleeing their homes following Russia’s invasion, there are a number of ways for people in Penarth to help with releif efforts.

Families have been forced to leave behind their homes and belongings to escape the bloodshed and danger caused by war, escaping to neighbouring countries.

Although Penarth, and indeed Wales, is not in the crossfire, people will have been following the horrors unfolding in Ukraine and wanting to do whatever they can to help.

Coffee #1 on Windsor Road, in Penarth, is one of many places across Wales collecting donations for Ukrainian families who have fled to Poland – items will be sent out on Wednesday, March 3.

Coffee #1 in Penarth – open between 8am and 6pm on weekdays – is collecting items such as:

  • Pain killers and bandages;
  • Toiletries;
  • Nappies and baby bottles;
  • Baby food and milk;
  • Blankets;
  • Food such as tins, kids snacks, cereals, dried fruit and nuts;
  • Coffee and tea bags.

Meanwhile, a bit further afield in Cardiff, donations can be dropped off to:

Magic Beauty Salon, Clifton Street (CF24 1LS) and Park Vets, Sanatorium Road (CF11 8DG)

Clothing item are no longer needed, but donations can include food with long shelf life and able to withstand transport, toiletries, nappies, medical supplies, and items such as towels, sleeping bags, blankets, torches, batteries, camping stoves, mugs pots, cutlery.

Donations will be accepted at Park Vets up until 7pm on Wednesday, March 2. The vet is open between 8.30am and 7pm on weekdays.

British Red Cross

Dominik Stillhart, ICRC director of operation at British Red Cross, has said “millions are at risk of deadly consequences” due to the crisis in Ukraine. Donations can help ensure people impacted by the conflict can have food, water, first aid and medicine, warm clothes, and shelter.
